The NFL season is almost here. The last week of preseason is being played and teams are getting ready to trim down their rosters. What great games will we have in week one? This is usually the week when novice football fans realize that preseason doesn’t matter. All the good teams return to form and the bad teams, which were dominating in preseason, begin their horrific trip through the regular season. Here’s a listing of games going down in week one in the NFL.

Thursday September 7

1. Miami Dolphins at the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Dolphins have been over hyped this off-season. Here’s a great test for this Miami club right out of the gate.

Sunday September 10

2. Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers

The battle for division supremacy begins right here.

3. New Orleans Saints at Cleveland Browns

4. Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions

The Seattle Seahawks get a fairly easy game to open the season. The Lions have a new offensive coordinator.

5. Philadelphia Eagles at Houston Texans

6. Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs

Will Carson Palmer be ready for action? This will be a hard fought game.

7. Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots

The rivalry gets going in week one. The Patriots have lost a great deal this off-season. Are the Bills ready to step it up this year?

8. Denver Broncos at St. Louis Rams

9. Baltimore Ravens at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

10. New York Jets at Tennessee Titans

How long before we hear chants calling for Vince Young?

11. San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals

One of the worst games this week. The only reason to watch is to see the Cardinals news stadium and to see how Edgerrin James runs for Arizona.

12. Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers

Is this it for Brett Favre? Will the Bears find an offense?

13. Dallas Cowboys at Jacksonville Jaguars

Great opening game for two clubs looking to step it up this season. Will Owens actually play in this one?

14. Indianapolis Colts at New York Giants

Sunday night football starts out with a monstrous game. How will P. Manning do without James? Can either of the Manning brothers win a playoff game?

15. Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins

The Redskins are proving that offense is not their thing. The Vikings believe they have a shot at their division this season. This should be a good Monday night game.

16. San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders

You are now up to date on week one in the NFL. It’s going to be a great week.

It’s week 11 in the NFL and the Chargers and Broncos are both 7-2 in the AFC West. This week the two titans go at it in Denver. At stake is first place in the AFC West and potentially the division title. These two teams will square off once more on December 10 in San Diego.

The San Diego Chargers have won three games in a row, including an impressive win at Cincinnati last week. The Bengals were up 21-0 at one point, but the Chargers kept plugging away. The game quickly turned into an offensive shootout. I guess the defenses went on a tea break. The Chargers won the game 49-41.

While the victory was a great one, I’m a little concerned about the Chargers defense. They gave up 41 points. They also gave up 24 and 25 points in previous weeks to the Rams and Brownsand 27 to the Chiefs. They are going to face a stingy defense in the Broncos and the Charges defense must step up.

The Broncos have won two straight and six of their last seven. The lone loss was a heartbreaker at home to the Colts34-31. While their defense has been stellar, their offense is leaving a bit to be desired. They escaped at Oakland last week with a 17-13 victorycome on.

This could be a must-win for each team. Both teams have a couple of tough games ahead. They both play each other again and the Chiefs. Both have a couple of each games too. However, they each have one tough game without a common opponent. The Broncos play at home against the Bengals. Meanwhile, the Chargers travel to Seattle to face a tough Seahawks team at Qwest Field.

Whoever wins this game will have a one game advantageand that’s going to be very significant. Both of these teams could finish with nearly identical results the rest of the way.

The 2006 NFL Season has turned the corner towards the last half of the season and the playoff picture is getting muddy. With 9 games played, who are the teams destined for the playoffs? Who are those that might sneak in? And who are those that need to start losing to get a better 2007 draft selection? Let’s take a look.

In the AFC East, there are two teams in playoff contention. The Patriots are 6-3 and have a one game on the 5-4 Jets. The Bills and Dolphins are playing for 2007.

The AFC North is Baltimore’s to lose. The Bengals are three games back and don’t look like a playoff team.

The Colts own the AFC Souththat’s a done deal. Jacksonville is 5-4 and has a shot at the playoffsif they can stop losing to teams like Houston.

The AFC West is a battle. Both the Broncos and Chargers are 7-2. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are 5-4 and in the hunt for a Wild Card.

The NFC East is a tight race. The Giants have a one game lead on Dallas and Philadelphia. Washington is dead.

Chicago will win the NFC North. The other teams are vying for 2007 draft selections.

The Saints are marching in the NFC South. It’s still anyone’s division, but the whole country is pulling for the Saints to get into the playoffs somehow. Carolina and Atlanta are just one game back.

The Seahawks keep it going despite not having their MVP running back and Pro Bowl QB. They are 6-3 and will take the NFC West this season. The other teams are showing some improvement, but losing seasons look likely and they won’t challenge the Seahawks past this point.
